Have you ever wondered what fly a guide would used on their day off, what flies their fellow guides and clients use? Well wonder no longer cause this is a selection of flies that my clients, guide friends and myself use on a daily basis. These are patterns that have been fished with confidence for years and all have proven track records. Most have been developed and fished over the years on the Flats of Cape York and other exotic locals around the world. You can be sure that each fly is tied with the most serious Angler in mind, using only the best materials and hooks available. Looking for a specific fly for a location? We can work with you to design a fly for whatever prey item or destination your going to. Here at Kettafly we fish , we guide and tie flies ``right`` in the Tropics.

About Al

I was born and raised in Coquitlam, B.C, Canada and was fortunate to have parents who loved the outdoors. I have been fishing since I was 2 years old, and took up fly fishing and tying flies at the age of 11. I’m self taught in both fields and started tying flies for 2 local fly shops in Vancouver in 1981 and been tying on and off for clients, shops, and guides ever since.

I moved to Whistler in 1991 and skied and fished for a few years, then needing a change I sold everything and with a pack on my back and a flyrod in hand I spent 1995/96 fishing the entire coast line of Australia and Tasmania.  I fell in love with the place, the people and of course the fishing.  Once I got back to Whistler I started planning my exit back Down Under.

On arriving back in Australia, I spent 10 years guiding for well known outfit Carpentaria Seafaris on the Western Cape York Peninsula. l now live and work as a fishing guide, photographer and fly tier in tropical Cairns, North Queensland.

I’ve has traveled extensively and always travel with my fly rods & fly tying materials.  I’ve has visited some of the most amazing destinations including; British Columbia, Alberta, Alaska, Yukon, Hawaii, New Zealand, Mexico, The Bahamas, Kiritimati, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Tropical Australia and Tasmania.

I love to fish for anything that swims, but my passion lies in sight fishing tropical flats for the fish the live and swim there.
